3rd Nov Screening – ‘Money as Debt’

Paul Grignon’s 47-minute animated presentation of “Money as Debt” tells in very simple and effective graphic terms what money is and how it is being created.I recommend it as a painless but hard-hitting educational tool and encourage the widest distribution and use by all groups concerned with the present unsustainable monetary system in Canada and the United States

Atlantic Free Press wrote “Money as Debt is not entertainment—far from it. The film offers amazingly elementary facts about the creation of money in the United States, narrated by a soothing voice, which could make for a bland presentation, yet the film’s message is anything but vapid. In fact, if it doesn’t leave your blood boiling, it behooves you to check your vital signs”. OpEdNews called it a “useful, though by no means definitive, introduction to the topic of debt and the monetary system.”

The film has received positive reviews in screenings and online and has been viewed more than 500,000 times on YouTube in three languages.

As usual it is @ MOORS BAR, Crouch End, N8

We are calling for a new Green on the Screen co-ordinator and team!

Our first year invitation is almost coming to an end.  And what a year it has been!

Inspiring, challenging and life changing films were shown, local food was deliciously prepared and eaten, many courageous conversations were facilitated by members of the community and new initiatives sprouted from these ‘world cafe’ evenings that are now growing healthy and strong. We are also watering new relationships in our community and further afield that we have made through these evenings.

We are so deeply fed and enthused by the generous yield of the project that we have decided to take it into an other year.

Therefore it is time to think about the new wave of people who will take the initiative through the next year – 2011.

Azul Thome is happily stepping out as the initiator and fire keeper of ‘Green on the Screen’ to focus on ‘Food from the Sky’ and to give an other person the opportunity to grow in this field and have fun!.

We are calling for a small group of people living locally ( Crouch End area…ish!) to step in for an initial meeting.  You would want to :

  • Build resilient relationships with the local community
  • Promote local, seasonal, organic food
  • Create a new programme of films for 2011
  • Films that are empowering, challenging, inspiring; around the theme of sustainability and of being agents of change.
  • Feeding our facebook group and wordpress site
  • Basic book-keeping
  • Mailing list harvester
  • Door people etc….

Let your voice be heard if you are interested in being part of the next ‘Green on the Screen’ Team.  The next stage will be to set up a meeting and take it from there.

Write to me Azul if you are interested:   Azulthome@gmail.com

Green on the Screen presents – ‘the Power of Community’ – date moved to Wed 8th Sept

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, Cuba’s economy went into a tailspin. With imports of oil cut by more than half – and food by 80 percent – people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people during this difficult time. Cubans share how they transitioned from a highly mechanized, industrial agricultural system to one using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens. It is an unusual look into the Cuban culture during this economic crisis, which they call “The Special Period.” The film opens with a short history of Peak Oil, a term for the time in our history when world oil production will reach its all-time peak and begin to decline forever. Cuba, the only country that has faced such a crisis – the massive reduction of fossil fuels – is an example of options and hope.
